14 Days in Gainesville

In the fall of 1990, Gainesville, Florida was bracing for a new era of Gators football. Steve Spurrier, the Heisman Trophy winner who had quarterbacked Florida in 1966, had returned to his alma mater as head coach, promising to breathe new life into a program hungry to join college football's elite. Then, just days before the Gators were scheduled to open the season, five University of Florida students were murdered over a matter of days, and a community waiting on kickoff instead found itself gripped by fear and grief, with a serial killer still on the loose.

14 Days in Gainesville returns to that two-week stretch through the people who lived it: Spurrier and members of the Gators football program, along with journalists, university leaders, law enforcement officials and residents of the Gainesville community. Classes were disrupted, students left town, and a football team preparing for a fresh start became inseparable from a city confronting the unthinkable.

Directed by Daniel B. Levin and produced by MY Entertainment, this 30 for 30 documentary premiered Tuesday, September 15 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and the ESPN App.
