Australia Gets Reality Show Pregnant & Platonic
It sounds like an April Fool's joke but reality TV could be about to delve into uncharted territory in the Australian market. Sydney-based Eureka Productions have picked up the rights to Pregnant & Platonic, a controversial show matching singles together in order to co-parent a baby - without marriage or sex.Originally created in Israel, TV Tonight reports that the show could become the latest in a long line of reality programs to thrive on our screens if the rights are bought by a broadcaster.Pregnant & Platonic gives singles the choice between three prospective partners that have been hand selected for them by a group of experts. They then undergo a three-day 'parenting boot camp' to determine whether their parenting styles and core values are compatible. If a partner is chosen, the show will follow the couple's journey as they attempt to become a family and make the unorthodox arrangement work. The show's founder, Assaf Gil, conceived the idea after co-parenting his first child last year. After securing the Australian rights, Eureka will now have to find a broadcaster to back the concept. And given the ratings success of recent reality shows, Pregnant & Platonic may eventually make it on to our screens.
